The Smeltery is a Multiblock structure added by Tinkers' Construct used to smelt ores to double ingots and craft metal parts for tools and weapons.

It is also used to create Casts similar to Patterns for making these parts. The Smeltery is comprised of 7 types of blocks.

Porcelain Faucet

Tinker Tank Controller. They are added later to be able to use the molten metal inside the Smeltery. These clear blocks can hold liquids, and can be used in place of the Seared Tank, or for the walls of the Smeltery. Above them, for the next level, leave the 3x3 space clear, but in the 12 spaces around them corners not necessaryplace exactly 1 Smeltery Controller facing outwards, at least 1 Seared Tank or equivalentand the rest can be any seared blocks - arrangement doesn't matter.

Additional layers of 12 blocks can be added above these for more smelting capacity 9 items per layer, excluding the floor.

Casting Basins will accept molten liquid from liquid pipes and turn the molten liquid into blocks, which can then be extracted using hoppers or BuildCraft pipes or alternate transport systems of your choice. A Redstone clock can be used to extract large amounts of ingots and blocks from a Smeltery. To do so place the clock in any of the 6 spaces that are directly 'touching' the Smeltery's Seared Faucet and the usual Casting Table with Ingot Cast below the Faucet.

This will heat up the interior of the Smeltery to allow you to process materials. The left side of the GUI shows your processing slots, with 9 slots added for every layer of empty space inside your smeltery. The middle of the GUI is the storage tank where the liquid metals are stored. This allows you to see how much liquid metal is inside the Smeltery, what kinds of metal, and in what order they will be drained starting from the bottom.

The bar along the right side of the GUI is how much lava the Smeltery currently has left. Having less lava means the ores heat up slower. No lava prevents any smelting from occurring. To use the liquid metal, you must drain the liquid into a Casting Basin or a Casting Table.

To activate the Faucet, right-click on it. A Casting Basin will allow you to create blocks. Metal blocks require 9 ingots, but other smeltable materials, like Obsidian or Glass and Sand, require the same amount of material that was placed into the smeltery.

The Casting Table will allow you to create casts out of Aluminum Brass or Gold to create other metal items using the casts you have previously made.


If you want to keep your metals aside for later, or if you have less than 1 ingot in the Smeltery and would like to save it, place a tank below the Seared Faucet, or hook up a Buildcraft-compatible pipe to the Smeltery drain, and you can pull your molten metals out into a tank for later use. However, if you have half an ingot of certain metals, you may find it simpler to either just cast a tool rod of that material and then smelt it down later, or to pour it into a basin and breaking the basin for easy clearing of your smeltery.

To get your metals back into the tank, you must pipe the liquid back into the smeltery. The only methods available with just Tinker's Construct is detailed below:. Casting Channel

A method gained by also using Thermal Expansion is by using Fluiducts. Fluids drained from the Smeltery are extracted from the bottom layers. Fluids inserted are added to the top. You can use this feature to cycle small amounts of liquids from the bottom to the top of the Smeltery by draining into a Fluiduct long enough to contain all of that particular liquid then reversing the Fluiduct to add it back on top of the other liquids or by pointing the other end of the Fluiduct pipe into another drain, or the same drain if on a corner.

Repeat this process until the liquid you need is at the bottom.

I had to demolish half of the smeltery to figure it out and rebuild it but if others run into this issue it could be because the drain is actually supposed to be on the lowest portion of the outside of the smeltery. In order to create a cast, first create the part of which you wish to create a cast and place it in the casting table. Then pour Aluminum Brass or Gold onto the objects to create the cast. Casts can only be used in the casting table. Once you have a working smeltery with drains and faucets, place Aluminum Brass or Gold in the Smeltery Controllerit will take a few seconds for the items to smelt.

When this is done the items will no longer be inside the Smeltery Controller. Then, put a tool part or an item shaped like an ingot to make an ingot cast in the Casting Table. Now right click the Seared Faucet.

You should see the liquid flow out from the Faucet and out onto the Casting Table and your part. Then right click the Casting Table twice. This gives you the cast and your tool part. After you have created your casts, you can pour any metal with a tool part into the cast using your Casting Table.

Right click on the Seared Faucet above the Casting Table containing your cast, and watch the molten metal pour!
